In the middle of the Arizona Desert, where everything is barren and flat, you come across a strange sight when you reach the Barringer Meteor Crater. On the edge of the crater I actually searched and found a beautiful tiny purple flower! If anyone can find one, I knew I could!
It is a registered natural landmark.
Here is a large panoramic poster of the crater. It is the best preserved and first proven meteor crater sites on Earth and is privately owned, although scientists and astronauts do study and train here.
The Holsinger Meteorite is the largest discovered fragment of the 150 foot meteor that created the Meteor Crater.
Quite amazing how a one time event, that happened nearly a million years ago, can make such a permanent impact on the world! Makes a person think…what comes to your mind?
