Did you know that you can make your own lip scrub? Today I’m sharing an easy recipe for my Pumpkin Pie Lip Scrub.
It’s October and you know what that means! For me it’s the official start of pumpkin season! Tis the season for all things pumpkin, so why not let your lips in on the fun? I love pumpkin anything so when I realized that you could add it to body/beauty products I was excited! My favorite lip scrub is from the Brown Sugar Collection at FRESH but did you know that you can also make your own version at home? This pumpkin pie lip scrub is so easy to make, and it leaves your lips soft and nourished. Take a peek below at how to make your own using just a few simple ingredients and just a few steps. Your lips are sure to love it!
Here is what you will need:
1⁄4 cup of pumpkin pie mix OR pureed pumpkin
2 tablespoons of light or dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon of olive oil (you may substitute with coconut oil if you wish)
Small fruit jar with lid
We used a pumpkin pie mix for ours, since it contains both pumpkin and sweet potato. You can use the same or opt for a basic pumpkin puree in a can.
1. In a bowl, mix the pumpkin puree and the brown sugar. Mix well so that the sugar dissolves as much as possible. This may require stirring for several minutes and breaking apart chunks with your spoon.
2. Stir in the olive oil. Continue to mix so it is well dispersed.
3. The mixture should be nice and smooth. Pour it into the fruit jar for safe keeping. If you are not going to be using it right away, twist on the air tight lid. This mixture will stay good for several days as long as it stays in a cool place and is not opened.
To use your pumpkin pie lip scrub, apply a generous amount to the lips using your finger. Brush it over the lips in small circles, which really puts the grains of sugar to work at scrubbing away dead skin. The olive oil will moisturize and nourish, while the many vitamins found in the pumpkin will feed your lips the nutrients they need. After a few minutes, rinse clean with warm water. Do not worry if any gets in your mouth, as all of the items used are food products and safe.
Now you know what to do with your leftover pumpkin when you are busy baking this holiday season. Have you ever even tried a lip scrub before? I love using one! So go ahead and give this easy and inexpensive pumpkin pie lip scrub a try.
