Come learn How to Pack Your Holiday Travel Suitcase in 7 Easy Steps!
Everyone knows how much I love to travel! I’ve gone on so many adventures over so many years that I could be all packed and ready to go in less than 30 minutes and not be stressed. I’d love to share some ideas with you now. You too can easily Pack Your Holiday Travel Suitcase in 7 Steps and here is how you do it.
Packing for your holiday travel can be a real nightmare – but it doesn’t HAVE to be! If you pull out your suitcase and follow the seven steps below, you will have your belongings packed and ready to go before you know it!
1. Don’t wait until the last minute!
You want to have plenty of time to get things packed so you aren’t rushing or forgetting things. Having ample time will reduce the stress of holiday travel too. Pull out your luggage and start to pack at least one week in advance of your journey – and even sooner if you will also be packing for your spouse and kids. Planning ahead is the single most important tip! I promise you won’t be sorry when you do this.
2. Plan out your holiday wardrobe.
Do you have a special sweater you wear during the holiday season? Don’t forget to add it to the list to pack! Planning out all of your outfits will reduce the chances of leaving behind a favorite top or pair of pants. Include shoes, jewelry, and other accessories when planning your packing list.
3. Check the weather where you are headed.
Make sure the clothing you are packing is appropriate to the climate of your destination. If you are going to a place where snow is likely, don’t forget boots and a warm coat. Even if you aren’t going to frigid locations, it’s best to pack at least a light jacket a 1-2 pairs of pants. It will be December, so you never know how cold it can get! Layers is important and I usually wear my coat on the plane to save space inside my bag.
4. Think simple where you can.
The less you have to pack, the more time you have to spend on other holiday travel preparations. Plus, the lighter your suitcase will be! Think about the basics – plain t-shirts and pants or khakis that can be mixed and matched when you get to your destination. The same goes for shoes and jewelry. I usually go with one color scheme so I can combine and get more outfits and bring less. Fitting everything into a carry-on suitcase is THE BEST WAY TO TRAVEL if you can manage it. You will never have lost luggage that way!
5. Use space saver bags for more room.
If you still find yourself packing a great deal of items for your travels, use vacuum bags to help minimize wasted space. Pack a single outfit in each bag, if possible, to make it easier on you when unpacking or dressing for the day during your trip. If you don’t have them you can use bags and squeeze the air out of them too, it’s not perfect but second best.
6. Consider only packing your wrinkle-free fabrics.
If you will be busy during the holidays, the last thing you want to do is reach for the iron every morning. Try to pack with clothing that is less likely to wrinkle while in your suitcase. Knit tops and pants, when folded properly, don’t typically require a lot of ironing before you can wear them. This has been the biggest life-saver for me!
7. Keep your toiletries in a separate bag.
A cosmetic bag is a must for your perfume, brushes, and other hygiene items. You don’t want to take the chance of something spilling inside your luggage, possibly ruining your clothes. When packing your clothing, keep in mind the space your toiletry bag will need. I put my bag then into a large ziplock bag and double bag it so if something does leak it won’t get on my clothes! Yes I learned the hard way when something exploded once and got all over everything!
