Are you ready for some early Holiday Fun? I’m sharing my recipe for Peppermint Play Dough!
Who’s thinking about getting ready for the holidays yet? My friends over at 30 Minute Crafts and The Country Chic Cottage are! I’m excited to be part of their latest Round of Craft Lightning Holiday 2014, where each participant shares a craft that can be made in 15 minutes. Be sure to go over and see what everyone else has to share for this fun event. They’re doing this and sharing all week. I thought since my Apple Pie Play Dough and Hot Chocolate Play Dough were such huge hits with everyone, that I’d come up with one to share for Christmas. You’re going to love the way this one smells and it’s just as simple as the others were so anyone can make it.
My recipe for Peppermint Play Dough is sure to spice things up this holiday season!
1 cup of all purpose flour
¼ cup of salt
1 ½ tablespoons of cream of tartar
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
1 cup boiling water
Green and red food coloring
4-5 drops of peppermint oil. You can also use a teaspoon of finely crushed mint leaves, or a few drops of toothpaste.
1. Bring your water to a boil.
2. Set the food coloring aside, and combine your remaining dry ingredients into a bowl. Mix well. Add in the boiling water and oil. Stir well.
3. Mix until a paste forms. If the paste is sticky to the touch, you can add in some basic flour a teaspoon at a time until firm.
4. Your peppermint scented play dough can now be colored. Begin by diving the dough into two halves. Add a few drops of green food coloring to one half of the dough, and a few drops of red to the other half. Continue kneading until the color is distributed in both halves. You can then press the two halves together and gently knead to create the multicolor swirl effect you see here.
This peppermint play dough can be stored in an air tight container or zip lock bag which will keep it soft and pliable. If you wish, you can add additional drops of scented oil as time goes on to freshen up the smell.
I promise that if you make this one and share it with a child this Christmas you will be their favorite! This would be fun to do for a party and it would make a great gift too. So now that you’ve seen all three of my Play Dough Recipes, which one is your favorite?
